API Healthcare is a GE Healthcare company, based in Hartford, Wisconsin and is a developer of healthcare-specific workforce management software. The company is best known for providing technology to the healthcare industry. API Healthcare was rated in the Top 20 Best in KLAS Awards Report as the top time and attendance provider system from 2002-2012 and the top staffing and scheduling solution in 2012.

Lisa Labau has been the company's General Manager since 2014. The company currently has 380 employees.

History

API Healthcare was founded in 1982 and is based in Hartford, Wisconsin. Formerly known as API Software, Inc., the company was purchased by Francisco Partners, a private equity firm headquartered in San Francisco, in November 2008. The company changed its name to API Healthcare in February 2009.

In December 2009, API Healthcare acquired the Addison, TX-based company Clearview Staffing Software, a provider of workforce management solutions that help healthcare staffing agencies recruit, credential, schedule, and pay temporary staff.

An intended merger between API Healthcare and Kronos, Inc., a Massachusetts-based workforce management vendor, was announced in February 2011. That merger was abandoned in April 2011 following antitrust concerns from the U.S. Department of Justice.

In February 2012, API Healthcare acquired Concerro, a San Diego-based provider of staffing solutions delivered via a Software as a Service (SaaS) model. This acquisition enabled the company to provide its software to home health care, retail clinics, a long-term care facilities, and similar.

In February 2014, API Healthcare was acquired by General Electric, under the GE Healthcare Division. At the time of the GE acquisition, J.P. Fingado stepped down as CEO of API Healthcare and Lisa Labau was announced as the General Manager. Labau was previously the Vice President of Operations at API Healthcare.

API Healthcare offers integrated workforce management technology to the healthcare industry, for both health systems and staffing agencies. It offers its solutions to monitor and control labor costs, address staffing challenges, automate time and attendance, track and manage human resource data, manage payroll in real time, base workloads on patient classification, convert applicants to employees, and manage temp staffing on demand.

Solutions for health systems include time and attendance, staffing and scheduling, talent management, human resources and payroll, business analytics, and patient classification solutions for healthcare providers. The company's latest offering is a suite of Talent Management solutions aimed to help healthcare organizations recruit, retain, and engage employees.

Solutions for staffing agencies include recruiting solutions, such as online applications, competency testing and skills, clinical competency tests, eDocs and signatures, and integrated agency solutions. The company's solutions for staffing agencies also include contingent staffing solutions, such as sales and contract management, order management, credential compliance, recruiting, staffing and scheduling, travel module, payroll and billing, reporting and analytics, and temp and client portals.

The company also created the Healthcare Workforce Information Exchange (HwIE). The Healthcare Workforce Information Exchange (HwIE) facilitates the sharing of data between healthcare facilities, similar to the Health Information Exchange (HIE). As well as exchanging only clinical Electronic Health Record (EHR) information, the HwIE shares workforce data from an Electronic Employee Record (EER).
